US says foiled Chinese cyber espionage operation targeting sensitive agencies

WEB DESK: US authorities have claimed to have disrupted a Chinese cyber operation targeting the US Department of Justice, NASA, the Federal Reserve and the Senate.

The Justice Department said the operation also targeted other sensitive US agencies, adding that authorities had seized the domains of two hacking platforms allegedly used in the cyberattacks.

The department said the campaign had been active since at least 2018 and also affected the Departments of Energy and Health and Human Services, the National Institutes of Health and private organisations in the US and South Korea.

Authorities linked the operation to Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology, while China has previously denied involvement in similar cyber-espionage allegations.
